The 1572 Intelligence Tracker

Bulb wattage measurements of the inhabitants of my home

first of all, let me apologize for neglecting this popular feature of the site. it has been over a year since our last update to "the tracker" so there has been quite a bit of movement amongst the participants. so, if for some reason this is your first time around on this, try and catch up by examining tracker readings one and two before leaving any input.

reading #3

5th place: geddy

to make a slight adaptation to a country music song i am only vaguely aware of, geddy is "old enough to know better, but still too dumb to care." still a master of the "if... then" statement laid out so brilliantly in tracker 1, geddy knows the moment she is caught doing something wrong she will get a whoopin. in spite of that inevitable fact, if you give her a day or two to forget about it, she will go right back to the same disruptive behavior that got her in trouble in the first place.

for example, lets just say that geddy digs under the backyard fence for the umpteenth time in a given week just to see what a certain neighbor is cooking out on the grill. the neighbor then shares a burger or two with her before calling my cell and letting me know that my dog will not be requiring any dinner. moments later, i show up with my truck and attempt to load geddy up into the back. ordinarily, all i have to do is drop the tailgate and geddy throws herself into the bed. however, in times like this all i have to do is glance at her and she somehow draws her legs up into her body cavity and crawls around on her belly. yes, a beating will follow once we get home... but like i said earlier, give it a day or so and well... rinse, lather repeat, rinse, lather, repeat. clearly, geddy has maxed out on the number of things she can learn and that is why she is on the bottom of the household food chain for this reading. so while geddy is a great family pet, potential counts for a lot in the tracker, and she just doesn't have much of that going for her right now.

4th place: la neige (D)

since its inception, nobody has moved around on the tracker more than la neige. this is in spite of the fact that she is the only participant who has not changed one bit during all the readings. her position, or lack thereof, has always been dictated by the good or bad decisions made by her intelligence tracker peers. so, while we have made some new observations this time, la neige has once again done nothing other than continue to slurp off the 1572 gravy train ride she seems to be unable to fall off of. funny how given the right set of circumstances, apathy can look a lot like genius.

3rd place: richard vining

not to continue to put the blame somewhere else, but the longer we do this tracker thing the more i'm starting to see a correlation between my palm device and what i call "left brain shrinkage". what was at first a liberating feeling has become an irreversible liability i'm afraid. the mantra of "just live life and let palm handle all the logistics" has turned an ugly corner, and we are now proceeding full steam ahead down a road that leads to bumbling idiocy.

never has my "left brain shrinkage" theory more evident than with the release of this edition of the tracker. as you can see by my 3rd place standing, i have been passed by everyone but the cat and dog. clearly i need to either reproduce further and dilute the pool, or change the criteria used in evaluating intelligence. but in my defense, the burden of having to continually pull geddy and la neige along in all of their educational pursuits has not become any easier with age. now 34, i have pretty much learned everything i'm going to learn and will be spending the rest of my life just complaining about how wrong everything that exists outside of my knowledge base is.

2nd place: ava

if you were to simply chart progress made in the past three readings, ava would be the overall leader. however, the tracker is based on slices of time and as of right now, the top slot is still out of reach.

since reading 2, ava has by far absorbed, retained and applied more of the knowledge made available to her than any of her tracker peers. however, seeing how 80% of everything she learns comes from the current chip leader, a complete assent to the top does not seem likely. if however the other 20%, which comes from a combination of aj, tv, friends, music and dad, can unite forces, the margin between herself and kc might close. by my math, that means that at some point in the next 15 years, ava will claim the top spot unless kc takes steps to counteract the effects of the 20% by dispensing deliberate disinformation. we will have to keep a close eye on this as so to nip any tracker result tampering in the bud.

1st place: kc

enough of the gloom and doom forecast for kc's long-term prospects of retaining the top spot for a moment, and let's focus on the fact that for the third straight reading, kc is once again the overall leader. a remarkable achievement on the level of the atlanta braves current 13 year long division title streak. much like the braves during their streak, kc has able to maintain her position despite several team moves in the off-season. so, while she may not be winning the division by 20 games anymore, she is still coming home with the trophy

a detailed analysis of how she was able to cling to the top spot did show that in reading 3, kc was only able to maintain her lead rather than increase the margin of victory. this is interesting in that you would think that with all the floundering going on at the bottom of the tracker an opportunity for gain would be there for the taking. however, further analysis did show that this lack of gain can be attributed to the fact that everyone in the house has been forced to speak a new language known as two-year-old-lish. and while it is always good to learn a new language every now and then, it is not always good to completely abandon your native tongue.
for example, a complex issue in need of discussion should involve the use of the more traditional version of the english language. here, one has over 2,000 different words to choose from in order to express their thoughts. by contrast, there are only about 200 words available in the two-year-old-lish verbal arsenal. this in turn limits the discussion to a series of three and four word sentences which, at times, completely gloss over the important details. and while you would think that everyone could simply revert back to their native tongue after ava's 8:00 pm bedtime, that has not been the case. you see, one of the more interesting side effects of two-year-old-lish is that it completely takes over the portion of the brain that manages speech and does not allow for any switching... ever.

recap

to recap, this has been a rather interesting (and difficult to write) edition of the tracker. with all the changes that have gone down since my last update, there was a lot of ground to cover... so i hope you took notes. in the future, i will attempt to keep things a little more current in here and will let you know when anything significant (like if the cat somehow passes me in the rankings) occurs. until then, please feel free to make your comments/suggestions/incoherent input in the discussion box below. thank you for stopping by.
