| intelligence is the ability of a person, place or thing to learn and understand. this particular corner of my www site is dedicated to tracking the intelligence levels of the various inhabitants of 1572. |

5th place: ava |
| the other day ava displayed her first "if... then" thought process when she learned that if she hit the ring on this toy a desirable sound would play. she did this over and over and giggled each time, thus displaying the concept of "thought" for the first time. up till this point, much of what she did could only fall under the category of instinct, so while still in 5th place, she has narrowed the gap between herself and the dog considerably. | |

4th place: geddy |
| dogs are the master of the "if... then" statement. IF i do this, THEN i get a treat / beating. currently geddy has about 4 if / then commands successfully programmed. they are: sit, no, back and stay. while she does surprise us all with an occasional "intelligent" act, further investigation usually determines that what she has just done is simply an instinct masked as smarts. | |

3rd place: la neige |
while dogs are the master of the "if... then" statement, cats are the master of the "if... who cares". despite this, la neige shows a certain craftiness that puts her ahead of her k9 counterpart. |

2nd place: richard vining |
the simple fact that i did not put myself in front of my wife (kc - see 1st place) shows a level of thought that is much higher than many of you might expect. however, while i am comfortable with the lead i have established over the dog and cat, ava does cause me some concern with all that "potential" and what not. |

seeing how the rest of us all get our information from her, i really don't see kc giving up the top spot any time soon. |

while the cat clearly feels that she has learned all she needs to know, the dog continues to try and please. however, while ava shows the most potential for improvment she will be learning most of her information over the next 5 or so years from mom and dad... thus making it unlikely that she cracks the top 2 anytime soon. |
