Will it Float?

15" Dell CRT Monitor

With the wagering of RVPR points a little more balanced this time (5 float to 7 sink), I was finally convinced that we had hit a line right. However, with the RV.com collectively down 189 total points over the course of all these FEPO's to date, I'm not too sure how accurate indicator the wagering RV.com public is. Let's see!

Here is how it all went down. At approximately 6:15 pm, Ava, my sous scientist, and I pushed the outdated Dell CRT off the diving board and into the deep end of the pool per the wager's specifications. Displaying near perfect form off the board, the monitor hit the water face first, but immediately began to take on water and rolled to the screen up position... something that was anticipated and noted in the comment area by several registered users. As the monitor continued to take on water, it appeared to be doomed to the deep end when, all of the sudden, it leveled off and stabilized. After that time, there was no change in the monitors flotation level even when under the strain of not one, but two lego men armed with walkie-talkies and coffee cups.

after 3 minutes, Ava confirms that 'it floats'
8 minutes in, we were definitely still floating

So while I was on the right side of the wager this time, I have to say that I was a little surprised by the outcome. Looking that the monitor, you would think that it clearly had a shot at floating. However, upon picking one up, the 37.5 lbs make that shot seem a little slim. Furthermore, guessing at just how much air would be trapped inside the CRT (as well as whether or not it would be watertight for three minutes) was a bit of a coin toss. But after having witnessed the test, it is clear that the monitor would have floated indefinitely. In fact, I'm thinking that Survivorman could actually build a raft out of these things if ever stranded in an office trapped in the 1990's.

So congratulations for those of you who believed the the floatability of CRT's. For a more detailed synopsis of how it all went down (and for proof that there weren't any shenanigans going on either) please view the following video compilation.

IT FLOATS! And while I got this one right, the wagering RV.com public missed yet another one. No wonder casinos make some much money. This 'house' stuff is easy. As a group we are now down a total of 215 RVPR points over the course of 5 wagers. Well done!

I speculated it would float but not for the duration of over 5 minutes!? Cool project! Now, I'll bet it works as it did before after all the components have had time to dry (maybe a week.) Actually I'm really curious whether or not it's fepo worthy. spinoffs rarely do well.
