It's All Good Auto

Who is this guy and what is he thinking

if you've ever been to a memphis grizzlies game you probably noticed the guy who sits in the front row in all the whacked out suits and paces the sidelines like he owns the place. he attends every game with a different pair of shoes on and gets so into it that i figured he must be j-will's agent or something. however, upon further investigation by richardvining.com staff member WLM found out that not only is he is not involved with the team in any way other than being a season ticket holder, but that he runs a used car dealership down on south third street... waaaaay south third.

a bit let down by this revelation, i sort of let the issue of "who is this guy" drop until here recently when i've been seeing this guy, his "tan" and his suits all over town in the form of billboards advertising his dealership - "it's all good auto". intrigued, i decided to go visit "it's all good" and see what this guy is really all about. after all, few things just scream "field trip" like a used car dealership down on south third.

a view of the dealership from across the street

upon finding the dealership, i was immediately impressed as to how big it is. in fact, it is sooo big that we have 3 entrances - each with its own theme. theme one (above) is a STL sized wrought iron arch announcing to everyone who drives by that "it's all good". theme dos (left) gives off a more thug life vibe with its razor wire and chain link fencing.

theme three (below) has a cordova'esque neighborhood entrance look to it.

as i rolled around with my windows down and my system up in a kickin' F-150 with gleaming stock rims, i noticed that nobody from the office trailer rushed out to help me. perplexed, i decided to just help myself by checking out the deals on what appeared to be the largest collection of 1992 bonnevilles ever assembled. however, not really being in the market right now, i decided to move on... somewhat disappointed for not having met the man behind the tan.

so instead of really finding out who this guy is, i decided to just make an archive of all his billboards. below is a listing of all the ones i found on my way home from the dealership.

crump : headed east : 2 blocks before i240
i like the ivy that's growing over his face. i'll have to revisit this one in about 2 weeks

4th : FredEx Forum site
perfect placement - right by the new arena

3rd : headed south : 900 block
look fresh i get... but ride "clean"?

3rd : headed south : 1300 block
the 1300 block... i didn't stop the truck to take this pic.

3rd : headed south : 3000 block
by far, this one was the largest of the group - and it happens to be right @ the dealership entrance

3rd : headed north : 1000 block
nice cigar... and it rhymes

3rd : headed north : 1400 block
this one was plastic and moved with the wind for a fancy 3d effect.

3rd : headed north : 1500 block

3rd : headed north : 2900 block
wonder if jumpin jimmy is a "good fellows" as well

3rd : headed north : 3000 block
in the hebrew language, words that need to be emphasized are repeated

3rd : headed north : 3200 block
this is by far his best pose

3rd : headed north : 3300 block

call to action
listen up... i know that there is no way i've captured every one of these billboards, so if you see one that is not in the archive please let me know - or better yet, take a pic and i'll post it and give you all the cred.

call to action... the response
as a result of this expose some additional information has been uncovered by my readers

tidbit A our hero's real name is Mark Goodfellow

tidbit B the "look fresh, ride clean" is a take off from a band named Outkast who apparently
  has a song titled "so fresh, so clean"

tidbit C anyone interested in doing some "cyber-squatting" just in case "it's all good"
  becomes the next really big thing?

01/10/04 :: UPDATE :: It's All Spreading! - Union Avenue
I officially have a new favorite! A familiar suit and pose, but a new headline. You can check it out for yourself at the Wendy's on Union Avenue.

02/24/04 :: UPDATE :: Parody Ad's Are here

03/12/04 :: UPDATE :: Found Another One

last week i spoke with Mark on the phone after somebody let him know about my little feature here. initially, he was more than just a little bit upset with the light i was apparently "casting upon him" and said that when he read it he was "crushed". not feeling very good about crushing somebody, i asked how i could make this situation better. what ensued was a 24 minute phone call where i learned a thing or two about the man, the dealership and his billboards.

Now while we all know that Mark is pretty much a marketing genius... it turns out that he is a nice guy as well. he believes in memphis and is making a significant investment in it by building a brand new 3 million dollar facility on south 3rd. seriously... 3 million dollars... south 3rd. enuff said. now while i still take issues with the 10 year car loan concept, you have got to admire the way this guy puts himself out there. one of my favorite lines from our conversation was "i'm selling ME cause ME sells!" good stuff.

Anyway, what we agreed upon was that i would no longer point www.itsallgoodauto.com to this article so if you are reading this, you got here some other way.

Thanks for stopping by, and keep those photos coming in.
